Plays that moved viewers

How a play managed to hold the attention of its audiences despite heavy rains
Hyderabad: It is not every day that you find loyal audience, glued to their seats, despite a heavy downpour. But the audience was mesmerised by Kahani Sandhya, a collection of two short stories, which were staged by students from University of Hyderabad spearheaded by Satyabrata Rout, a professor of Scenography, UoH.
Both the stories were diametrically opposite, yet seemed bound by a common theme. The first story, Yatramukt, was filled with pathos, where a young lad wanted to escape his fate of being confined to a life of servitude in a mansion, a life which was deemed as the destiny of his own father.
The second story Brahmarakshas ka Shishya was loud and funny, based on the saying that if a scholar is unable to impart education to his student, he will suffer as a Brahmarakshas after his death. And redemption is possible only when he finds a deserving student, to pass on his knowledge.
“They portrayed different kinds of emotions but what connects both the stories is a search for freedom,” says Satyabrata.
The play didn’t have any music or light effects but the actors with their ability of storytelling managed to hold on to the attention of the audience till the very end. And that’s why even though the weather was anything but accommodating, the audience rushed to the green room after the play, to congratulate the crew for putting up such an enjoyable show.
