It’s time for Eid Mubarrak
The city is gearing up for Eid-Ul-Fitr, marking the end of a month of fasting. City celebs tells us about their plan for the big day, where biryani and bonhomie come together during this auspicious occassion

Of course we’re geared up for a big, big family affair! Everyone’s coming home for lunch and being a huge fan of mutton biryani, I can’t wait. My mom usually cooks for all of us, but since she’s not been keeping well, we ordered the food this time around. The festival is a great opportunity for everyone in the family to actually get together and spend some quality time, catching up on our hectic lives. I’d like to wish everyone a happy Eid.

My family and I are extremely devout when it comes to Ramzan; this last month has been all about discipline, will power and diet control for me! But the funny thing is that everyone assumes we lose weight due to fasting in this period, but it’s the other way round. Everyday, when I break fast in the evening, I end up eating a lot more not being able to resist myself! Apart from all the merry-making, I always make it a point to keep in mind those less fortunate than me. Every year, all my friends from the industry come home for a great meal. Since my wife is back in town (laughs), tomorrow’s lunch is a ‘couples only’ affair. However, in the nights, it’s going to be all the boys having a blast!

This Eid, I am looking forward to some much needed family time, after a super productive and hectic first half of the year. This is also the first eid with baby girl. We just wake up in the morning, go to namaz and then the graveyard to pray for our ancestors. We go around visiting my dad’s uncles and aunts. We feast as a family. It is a biryani all the way and my mom makes a killer rack of lamb. And then, we sleep it off.

On Eid, I would be looking forward to a relaxing day with family and friends. I will wake up a little late than my usual, say around 8 am. Then I will pray with my family and read namaz. This will be followed by a grand lunch. For me everything starts and ends with biriyani on Eid. So I am looking forward to savour it. In the evening, I would be heading for an Eid-cum-birthday bash.
As for my wishes, I just wish that I could get over the fasting season without bad bout of headache. In addition, I want people from different communities fast to with us for just two or three days and give us company!

This Eid is special as many of my family members are coming down from New Zealand. I’m really excited as it will be a big get together for us. This time unlike many previous years, we decided to observe Eid outside the city. All of us will be heading to Puducherry after the morning prayers and have already booked the lunch in a restaurant there. We will also make sweet vermicelli at home and distribute to neighbours and friends. As usual, we will wear new clothes and visit our close friends’ house.
