Tailoring feeds women ‘aged over 500’ in Chhattisgarh
The oldest beneficiary in the MSY scheme is 532-year-old
Raipur: In yet another amazing revelation, a welfare scheme being implemented by the Chhattisgarh government has claimed to have benefited over 6000 women, who were in the age group of 100 to 500 years.
The shocking revelation was made in a reply to a query under Right to Information Act. Of the total 19,399 women covered under the scheme, christened as “Mukhyamantri Silai (sewing) Yojana (MSY)” in Raipur, as many as 6,221 beneficiaries were in the age group of 100 to 500 years, according to the data provided by the Chhattisgarh government.
The appalling disclosure comes in the wake of another amazing statement made by the government earlier in response to an RTI in which women aged over 100 and 200 have been cited as beneficiaries of another welfare scheme named “Mukhyamantri Cycle Sahayata Yojana”.
Both the schemes were launched on the eve of Assembly polls in the state last year to benefit women workers absorbed in unorganized sector.
The oldest beneficiary in the MSY scheme, according to the data given in the RTI, is 532-year-old Usha Jamgare, a resident of Ward no-40 of Raipur.
Seven women beneficiaries aged over 400 years, 14 aged over 300 years, 11 aged over 200 years and 6,189 women aged over 100 years were provided free sewing machines to feed their respective families by undertaking tailoring business.
The MSY scheme, which cost around Rs 40 crore, has alone benefitted 1.5 lakh women in the state.
“The corruption exposed by RTI is only a tip of the iceberg. The magnitude of scam in the two schemes in the state can be gauged from it”, said RTI activist Sanjeev Agrawal on Tuesday.
