Hyderabad: Commuters, especially two-wheeler users, are facing a lot of problems due to the railway bridge over the road near Bible House and on the Paradise Road as they are showered with dirt every time a train passes overhead.
While the Railway authorities and concerned engineers claim that the galvanised iron (GI) sheets provide ample protection from falling dirt, people claim otherwise. According to the authorities, the GI sheets laid under the tracks are replaced every three months during summer and winter. During the monsoon, they are cleaned and replaced in case of rust, every 15 days.
“I travel from Basheerbagh to Trimulgherry via this road and go under this bridge. Many a times, something or the other falls from above when a train passes overhead,” said Girish, an IT professional
“Sometimes such a thing may happen. Heavy vehicles can disturb the alignment of the sheets. Once this comes to our notice, we do the needful,” said CPRO K. Samba Siva Rao.
“The authorities should seriously take a note of this and find a better solution than the sheets. They should replace the GI sheets with cement-concrete work,” suggested Siddhartha, an IT employee.
However, Mr Samba Siva Rao said, “That is very difficult as cement construction requires huge engineering work, heavy material and time. And given the traffic density here, the works might cause a lot of problems.”
Moreover, garbage lines the road emitting a foul smell, and an open toilet on one side of the bridge makes it difficult for commuters. “It is difficult to wait and breathe under the bridge, but there is no option as the traffic signal is just after it,” said Suguna, a student who uses this road.
