Telangana announces to form a separate council of Higher Education

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh on Sunday termed Telangana government’s decision to form its own state council of higher education as “unethical and detrimental” to the interests of students in both states.
AP deputy Chief Ministers K.E. Krishnamurthy and N. Chinna Rajappa met Governor E.S.L. Narsimhan on Sunday and submitted a memorandum protesting the decision. Mr Krishnamurthy later said the Governor assured them that he would do everything to protect the interests of students of both states.
The Telangana state government on Saturday had issued an order to form Telangana State Council of Higher Education, following the APSCHE decision to issue notification for counselling for Eamcet despite reservations expressed by the TS government. The affair got messier after APSCHE officials said the Telangana government had ‘misunderstood’ the notification.
Mr Krishnamurthy said that the decision to form TSCHE was against the spirit of Reorganisation Act. “TS government said the Council was set up in dire circumstances. What are these circumstances, nobody knows,” he said. The two ministers told the Governor that TS’ decision to set up TSCHE would delay the admission process.
