SC cautions against playing politics with students, regional bar; final order on Aug. 11
Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Monday ruled that the Eamcet 2014 admissions should be conducted as per the notification issued by the AP Higher Education Council and the process should be completed by August 31.
While dealing with an interim application by the Telangana state government, a two-member bench comprising Justice Sudhansu Jyoti Mukhopa-dhaya and Justice S.A. Bobde made it clear that the rule of reservations should be followed as per the Presidential Order.
Observing that the government should not play politics when lives of students were at stake, the bench said that students could not be discriminated based on regions and turned down the plea of the TS government to extend the time.
Mr Harish Salve, senior counsel appearing for the Telangana government, submitted that the new government was facing a staff crunch and the Centre was yet make final allocation of staff and the cadre.
He said that in view of such constraints, the government could not complete the admission process by August 1, as had earlier been directed by the apex court.
