Congress questions BJP’s hurry on Insurance Bill

No double standards on the insurance bill by Congress: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi: After uniting non-NDA parties against the controversial insurance bill in the Rajya Sabha, the main Opposition Congress on Tuesday asked why the government was in a hurry and why can’t it refer the Bill to a select committee.

Rejecting the charge that it was doing a U-turn on the Bill and was being “confrontationist”, the Congress alleged that the Centre stand smacks of “arrogance” and questioned the BJP’s “hurry” to get the measure passed after having “blocked” it “for six years”.

“I think there are no double standards on the insurance bill by the Congress,” party vice-president Rahul Gandhi told reporters at Parliament House.

A Congress floor manager on Tuesday said that the SP, BSP, Trinamul, CPM, CPI, JD(U), DMK, NC and the Congress are together on this issue.
