Dug-up Necklace road in Hyderabad loses sheen
Hyderabad: The famous Necklace Road has lost its charm thanks to rampant digging by authorities for multiple works like laying of electric lines and sewerage pipes.
The entire stretch, which used to attract tourists and was known to be the pride of Hyderabad, has not been the same since the past three years due to the inefficient and partial developmental works being carried out. Authorities do not undertake timely repair of roads in areas where work has been completed.
According to Hyderabad Municipal Development Authority officials, the road has been dug up for laying APTransco and APCPDCL cable lines, and two HMDA pipelines for diversion of the sewage entrances into Hussainsagar, and for the supply of treated water from Sewage Treatment Plants to the Hussainsagar.
“As of now, cable lines have been laid. We are still in the process of laying the sewage and treated water pipelines. This work will be completed soon,” said a senior HMDA official.
One side of the road has been dug up for the past few months leaving only the other side of the road for two-way traffic. “Sometimes, it is very difficult to drive along the sharp bends. If one loses concentration, an accident may occur,” said a frequent commuter on the road.
“Laying new lines and development works are being carried out on the stretch for two to three years now and that is why we could not concentrate on maintenance. Once we have finished laying the pipelines, we will start repair work on the entire stretch, from Sanjeevaiah Park to the Necklace Road circle,” said the HMDA official.
Re-carpeting of Necklace Road is expected to start by the last week of August, said officials.
