Anna university to revamp exam system

University’s academic council ratified changes in several courses
Chennai: Anna University, at its academic council meeting on Saturday, decided to revamp its examination system to inculcate analytical skills in students. There have been complaints about the lack of quality among engineering graduates in TN.
Anna University registrar (in-charge) and secretary of the academic council, Prof S. Ganesan, said one of the members said that the university should play a proactive role in increasing the quality of education in the affiliated colleges for which the university proposed reforms in the examination system.
“We will be constituting a committee to review the examination system and suggest necessary changes, which will be placed in the university’s academic council and syndicate for discussion,” he said.
The university’s academic council ratified changes in several courses as it had convened the academic council meeting after a gap of two years. A few members from the Coimbatore region expressed concern about the increase in the number of failures in their zone. They alleged that the university had not evaluated answer scripts fairly, which the university authorities denied as the allegations were baseless.
One of the members of the academic council urged the university to bring in changes to minimise the number of vacancies in the government’s single window counselling. “This year, we have about one lakh seats going vacant. So, the university has to make appropriate changes so that this does not happen every year,” he said.
