The Government is not taking Saif’s Padma Shri back: Kareena Kapoor Khan
Mumbai: Kareena Kapoor has set the record straight by confirming that the Government is not taking Saif Ali Khan’s Padma Shri back.
At a promotional event of her upcoming film she said, “They (government) are not taking Saif's Padma Shri back. The government has already issued a letter saying they are not taking his Padma Shri back. It (letter) is out and I think the media should have received the letter by now... though the verdict of this case is not yet out,"
In 2012, Saif Ali Khan and an NRI Businessman had got into a fight with each other at Taj Colaba. The actor was later booked for assaulting and he later told the cops that the businessman, Iqbal Sharma provoked him by using abusive language.
RTI activist SC Agrawal had filed a complaint with the Union Home Ministry demanding that Saif be stripped of the Padma Shri. It is the fourth highest civilian honour, which he received in 2010.
Padma award rules state that the 'President may cancel or annul the award of the decoration to any person’; there is no clarity on what happens if the person is charged or convicted by a court at a later date.
Despite all this, Saif, known to have a sense of humour even when the going gets tough was quoted saying, “Are they rethinking my Padma Shri after Humshakals?,” when asked to comment on the issue.
