153 foreign missions in Delhi, requests came from 150 heads of missions for invites
NEW DELHI: In a departure from the past, an overwhelming inte-rest was shown by the heads of foreign missions posted in Delhi to hear Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech on Friday.
According to official sources, of the 153 foreign missions in Delhi, requests came from 150 heads of missions for invites to attend the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort.
However, owing to paucity of space, only 144 of the heads of missions could be accommodated in the diplomatic enclosure, sources in the external affairs ministry said.
For the benefit of diplomats, Mr Modi’s speech was translated in English. Among the envoys who attended the function at the Red fort were those from the US, Russia, France, China and Japan.
