Kerala universities botch up admissions
Parents and students are up in arms against the lack of transparency in spot admissions
Thiruvananthapuram: A skewed process of spot admissions has resulted in low-ranking candidates scoring over meritorious students in admissions to arts and science colleges under Kerala University (KU) and engineering courses across the State.
Parents and students are up in arms against the lack of transparency and professionalism in spot admissions, undertaken by colleges to fill seats remaining vacant even after several rounds of online allotment.
Many students, enrolled at different colleges on the basis of the CEE rank list, were barred from applying for transfer to a better college during the spot admission. Such admissions were restricted to students in the same college, ignoring claims of students with higher marks from other colleges.
Similarly, students with higher marks were not considered for vacancies in preferred courses during spot admissions in arts and science colleges under KU. Only those who had failed to get a seat even after the last round of online allotment were allowed to apply afresh under the spot admission.
