Pankaj Advani forced to pick snooker or billiards
The Indian cueist is facing unpleasent situation but hopes to get time after Indian open
Mumbai: He was forced to skip the World Billiards Championship last year owing to a gruelling pro-snooker circuit and Pankaj Advani, the Indian cue sports artist is once again in an unpleasant situation to choose between billiards and snooker.
Yet to play any event in the pro-circuit this year, Advani is hoping that organizers push World Billiards Championship (October 20-29) by a few days so that he gets some gap after Indian Open to be held in Mumbai from October 13-17.
Advani’s absence was severely felt last year in Leeds when India had to content with Alok Kumar’s runner-up finish in points format as against twin gold medals in 2012. If Advani qualifies for Indian Open and decides to skip the event, the second edition of the prestigious tournament will be robbed of star value.
The only other Indian in the fray in that case is Aditya Mehta.
“I am torn between both the sports when it comes to choosing one over the other. I played snooker in England for the last two years and I missed Billiards a lot at that time. So I thought let me take a break and come back home and play billiards and represent the country and win medals for the country,” said Advani, who recently won the maiden World Team Championship.
