‘I’d love to act in Bollywood’
Pierce Brosnan is sexy, charming and has spent a decade starring as the world’s suavest spy, 007. Now at 61, the former James Bond is returning to the spy action movie world with his forthcoming project The November Man. In an interview with DC, the Irish actor reveals more about his life.
“The journey from Bond to here is quite a roller-coaster,” shares the actor, who is playing the role of a CIA agent. “It is exciting at 61 to run around the city with weapons.”
Speaking about the challenges he faced while juggling the role of a producer and an actor, he says, “The art of filmmaking has always been a secret passion of mine. When you are a producer and an actor for the same film, the role becomes little dicey. I remember I was freaking out just four days before the shoot.”
He continues, “I play the character of Peter Devereaux, who is living in a quiet environment and is bought back in the game for a secret mission. ‘Every time he goes to the city, everyone dies like it is winter’ — it is a line from the book (There Are No Spies, on which the movie is based) that’s a metaphor for his life. ” Amazingly, the actor still enjoys performing stunts at 61. He says, “Generally, at the age of 61 one’s bones start giving up. For me it’s a new day every day.”
While fans might wonder if Pierce is as cool as his famous character James Bond, he reveals that he is actually very different in real life. He says, “Good thing about Bond is he is extremely confident about who he is and what he does in life. On the other hand, I have my moments of doubts. My life is more a comedy than the drama of Bond.”
So, how many times has he been recognised as Bond and not as Brosnan? “It used to happen mostly when I was travelling. The first thing people would say is, ‘Bond. James Bond.’ I remember at an airport one of my youngest fans kept calling me James Bond. Later I got to know that he thought that was my real name,” he shares.
Talking about how Hollywood has evolved since the time he made his debut, he says, “Change is necessary to survive. Hollywood and cinema are bound to change. I am lucky to see this evolution and be a part of it.”
And what does he think about Indian cinema? “I have heard a lot about Indian cinema. I have done a movie called The Deceivers with Shashi Kapoor and Neena Gupta. I think Indian cinema has a long road to go. There is some great talent and some great movies to be made.” “I would love to act in Bollywood as long as I can speak Hindi well. I would opt for some spy and comedy genres,” he says and adds that he wishes to visit the country soon.
