Racing ahead: Speeding in regular cars
Hyderabad: Racers Anindith Reddy and Ishaan Dodhiwala have made Hyderabad proud by being selected for the Volkswagen Polo R Cup, which is held at New Delhi, Chennai and Coimbatore every year. And Anindith attributes his success to his parents, Chevella MP Vishweshwar Reddy and Sangita, MD of Apollo Hospitals, who have always encouraged his interest in sports.
“It has been a good year as my dad got elected as the MP and then I got selected for the Polo R Cup. For me, racing has always been a passion. My interest started with cars and went on to racing. I feel that racing is the most thrilling way to use a car,” says Anindith. He continues, “I started racing with go-karting. My father bought me a go-kart when I was just seven. My friend and I used to race on dirt in my farm. While many racers moved to formula cars for some reason, I stuck to the regular cars. You can change a whole aspect of a car and make it 100 times faster, this aspect is so exciting,” adds Anindith.
To hone his knowledge of cars, Anindith decided to be a mechanical engineer and went to the General Motors Institute in Michigan. “I think all mechanical engineers have a passion to build their own cars. While it may be a little hard to attain, every step I take on this path gives me great pleasure,” he says. The alumni of Kettering University adds, “Everyone in college was a car enthusiast so it was great to be around them.”
Anindith currently works as the project lead at HealthNet Global, a part of Apollo groups. Talking about how he got selected for the race, he says, “My school friend Ishaan Dodhiwala informed me about the selections. We just registered and went for the selection process. Everyone there looked so professional, so we were surprised when placed in the top five,” adds Anindith, who wants to revolutionise the automotive industry someday and make India a hub for motor sport.
Four of the 10 races are already over and the next races are scheduled to take place in Delhi in November.
