Hyderabad’s Gaurav Anand stood 2nd in the nationwide Chartered Accountancy exam

Hyderabad: Making Hyderabad proud by cracking one of the toughest exams, the IPCC exam for Chartered Accountancy is 19-year-old Gaurav Anand, who scored 566 and stood second in India, missing the first rank by two marks.
“A day before the exam I was wondering if I would even pass. But once the exams got over, I was expecting that I should at least be in the top 50, and then I realised that I stood second. It is still sinking in,” says Gaurav, adding that his mother Mamta Sahni, a single parent, is his driving force and support.
Gaurav always wanted to become a pilot but that became a distant dream because of his eyesight. He was never interested in becoming an engineer or doctor, and that is why he chose Chartered Accountancy (CA).
“I have always been a topper in my school and college, so my friends and family would say ‘you don’t have to work very hard, you will easily pass’. They had set a benchmark for me. They thought I would top this. I am glad I almost did,” he says.
He also has an advice for fellow CA aspirants. “These days, CA coaching institutes have become money-making machines. Their hoardings promise you a rank when you join them. Instead, students should do a thorough background check of the institution, by probably asking students they know.
Also, some people take fake certificates for articleship and utilise those two years to prepare for their final CA exam. But will that help them when they have to practise?” asks Guarav, who is looking forward to an articleship in a top firm in the city.
