BJP veteran Kalyan Singh to be Rajasthan Governor
BJP government has finalised its list of four gubernatorial appointments
New Delhi: Veteran BJP leader Kalyan Singh is set to take over as Rajasthan governor as the BJP government has finalised its list of four gubernatorial appointments for Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Goa.
The names have been forwarded to President Pranab Mukherjee and are expected to be announced by Tuesday. The fresh changes in Raj Bhavans come a day after UPA appointee K. Sankaranarayanan quit his gubernatorial charge after he was shunted from Maharashtra to Mizoram.
Mr Singh, the former Uttar Pradesh CM and BJP stalwart during whose tenure Babri Masjid was demolished, has already said that he would happily accept his new assignment of governorship that would cap his over-four-decade-long political career.
Besides Mr Singh, MHA sources disclosed, the other three new appointees for Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka Raj Bhavans are also senior BJP leaders and considered close to the RSS.
Meanwhile, the MHA is preparing a tough response to counter Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi’s charge that he is being forced to quit. The MHA is expected to give its reply by next week.
