Festive hautelist in Lakme Fashion Week
Eight best trendsetters from the Lakme fashion week winter/festive 2014
Hyderabad: Looks like we’re all set for the season with LFW, 2014, bringing out new colours and shapes for the discerning ones looking for that something special.
The recently-concluded event had several designers and its fair share of headlining Bollywood showstoppers, it was Mumbai all the way! And it wasn’t just a single course of heavy lehengas or silk knots. Huemn showed off its screamer of a shirt and Anavila smashed open its ‘tradition trunk’ for Konkona Sen. Australian designers Pamela Easton and Lydia Pearson too had a good debut with bright colours, natural fabrics, sharp contrasts and giant polka dots well, why not. If you’re aiming for quirk at the cousin’s wedding, try this!
Then there was Masaba’s collection for the “travel-loving woman”, called Wanderess which, frankly, was saved by Shilpa Shetty and her curves. The showstopper was dressed in a cut-out gown with a traditional dupatta attached. Absolutely stunning.
So, there. Tradition and the modern form mixed well and we now check out the clothes that could set the trend.
Easton Pearson
This Brisbane-based label will bring to the Indian festival scene blues, pinks and greens. The style quotient is heavy too, with horizontal stripes and absolutely kooky prints. This is not for the faint-hearted.
Of particular note:
Masaba was not everyone’s cup of tea. You NEED to have Shilpa’s figure to pull off that piece. The collection is certainly not for those frowning at the weighing scale.
Jacqueline Fernandez for Anju Modi
The heavy lehenga is still in. Jacqueline was a vision as she walked for Anju Modi and this piece certainly looks ready to play its part in the very exclusive bridal section. Although, you have to pray the skirt doesn’t clash with the carpet! Also, the not-so traditional patterns looked interesting.
Mrinalini Chandra
For festive jewellery, Mrinalini Chandra’s Shakuntala series was certainly the headline. Jaw-dropping designs with an ode to the ever-climbing, all-consuming jungle vine.-
Huemn
The Charles Bukowski shirt by Huemn, Pranav Mishra and Shyma Shetty that’ll be the rage soon. All you need is a pair of your finest sneakers, a dark pair of pants, and you’re leaving the crowd behind.
Anavila
For that very earthy tone mixed with metals, Anavila took the cake for what Konkona Sen wore on the ramp. The sari was part of the Mohenjo Daro collection and a bronze neckpiece made sure the piece only required minimal make-up.
Ekru
Ekru are officially ready to take on the festive season with their endless layers and colour block. There were asymmetrical hemlines, saris teamed with jackets and the collection seems perfect for winter festivities.
Varun Bahl
Priyanka Chopra was positively stunning as she turned up on the ramp wearing black palazzos, a crop top and a chunky neckpiece. The outfit by Varun Bahl makes sure the good ol’ crop top continues to live on (at least into the next year) but the best part to the ensemble is the fact that you don’t need accessories adding to drama, which here, is subtle.
