Closed outlets help bars sell stock before Onam ends

Thiruvananthapuram: The Yuva Morcha agitation against the Kerala State Beverages Corporation outlets across the state is likely to boost the sales in bars which have been asked to close down after the Onam season on September 12.
Many Bevco outlets were closed on Friday following the marches taken out by the Yuva Morcha. This helped the bars to clear their stocks.
However, Yuva Morcha state president P. Sudheer told Deccan Chronicle that their strike was not restricted to beverages outlets. They would force bars also to close during the period. The organisation was for prohibition in a phased manner. Its present demand was to ensure that liquor was not sold during the ten-day Onam festival stretching from Chingam to Thiruvonam.
“We have not excluded bar hotels from the agitation. We are planning to take out marches to the hotels in the coming days to stop their sales during the Onam season, Mr Sudheer said.
