Women’s loo at Macca Masjid in bad state

Hyderabad: The women’s public toilet at Macca Masjid is in a deplorable condition, inconveniencing the pilgrims and tourists visiting the place.

There are about six toilets built for women in the premises. Of these, only the toilet that is inside the girls’ school and the one nearby are in good condition. Women complain that they have to cross the open men’s toilets and pay a man at the entrance before using the toilets, which is embarrassing.

“I have personally inspected the toilets in the premises of Macca Masjid and found that they are in very bad condition, both construction and cleanliness wise,” said Lubna Sarwat of the AAP.

“It is very embarrassing for the women to pass by an almost open men’s toilet and pay the man to use the dirty toilets,” she said.

Khaja Moinuddin, superintendent of the masjid, said that an old lady used to collect the fee at the women’s toilet. “After she died, we had to replace her with the old man due to lack of staff. He will too retire in October this year, and that it is a temporary problem. We had put up a proposal last year to demolish the existing toilets which are in a bad condition and build new ones. Unfortunately, it did not happen last year. This year we have put up a proposal,” he said.
