Asian games team has no place for performers of Pro Kabaddi League
Non selected players expressed displeasure on being not selected
Mumbai: They were top performers in the recently concluded Pro Kabaddi League and their exploits made them household names. High on confidence after a successful run in the maiden edition of the glitzy tournament, the players looking forward to replicating the performance at the Asian Games were however, disappointed to find their names missing in the 12-member squad.
Defenders Surender Nada, Jasmer Singh and Dharamraj Cherlathan feature among the top five defenders of the league but they were not included in the India squad. Similarly, raider Rahul Chaudhri, who finished second on the leader board behind Anup Kumar (155 points) with 151 points, too was left out.Scared of the consequences, many players on condition of anonymity expressed their displeasure at being overlooked for the Asian Games
When contacted, Janadaran Singh Gehlot, president International Kabaddi Federation of India said that performances of the Pro Kabaddi League were not considered for selection to the Asian Games squad. “We have had five national camps prior to the Pro Kabaddi League. We have only taken into consideration the performance in the camp held in Bengaluru for 36 probables before the start of the league,” he said. Gehlot added that performances in the Pro Kabaddi would not influence team selection.
