It’s not just badminton for Jwala Gutta

Jwala Gutta’s planned academy all set to include training in other sports
Hyderabad: Jwala Gutta has moved one step closer to fulfilling her dream of starting her badminton academy, now that her proposal has been received by the TS government. “The government is quite happy with the proposal,” she reveals in an interview to the Deccan Chronicle.
Jwala adds that she has badminton and much more planned for her academy. “Things are on the right track now. But, I’ll have to wait a little longer to reveal the date,” she says.
The cost of honing a sport has become expensive and Jwala wants to help out, “Not many have the luxury to take up a sport. Through the academy, we want to help the government and the people. For now we’re concentrating on badminton alone, but we also plan to introduce other sports too.”
If everything goes as planned, she will start her academy at the Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Indoor Stadium, Yousufguda. “The stadium is already there, so I don’t see a need to build a new one. If we get the stadium, we will also look into the maintenance and people will start using it for sports, instead of the activities that take place there.”
With news of the new academy spreading, there have been comparisons with Gopichand’s Academy, but Jwala rubbishes the rumours. “I’m not competing with anyone, I don’t do that. I’m just following my teacher, Arif sir’s path. I want to make it easier for budding sportspersons and this is my way of giving back to the state and the sport.”
