Education department to take students’ feedback

Hyderabad: The state education department officials are now going back to school not to study, but to assess the quality of education being imparted by the faculty. Telangana education minister G. Jagadishwar Reddy held a Budget Task Force meeting on Wednesday. Ten officials, of the rank of additional director in the education department, have been given charge of each district.
“These officers will attend classes and will listen to how the teacher is teaching. Students’ feedback will also be taken after the class. Parents will also be involved,” Mr Jagadishwar Reddy said.
Unlike usual school inspection committees, this process will not be a one-time affair. Reports from each schools will be shared with the government and the State Council of Educational Research and Training will review feedback and devise methods.
“We want to see and evaluate the methodology of teaching in schools. Even private schools will be evaluated. This is like research work but with a positive attitude and not to punish anyone,” the minister said.
The officials will spend around a week, every month, visiting schools and the minister maintained that every school in the state would be evaluated.
About proper sanitation facilities in schools, Mr Jagadishwar Reddy said 100 per cent sanitation and installation of toilets will be achieved by the end of the current academic year. Currently, about 54 per cent schools do not have toilets.
As part of the slew of fresh proposals, the government will also monitor fees charged by private schools in the city.
