Karimnagar temples is reportedly be transferred to Jagtial district

KARIMNAGAR: Karimnagar’s loss will be Jagtial’s gain once the latter is carved out. Karimnagar district is likely to lose its prominent pilgrim destinations once the proposed Jagtial is carved out as a district with Vemulawada, Dharmapuri, Korutla and Jagtial Assembly constituencies. Consequently, Karimnagar district will also lose income generated by the shrines.
In north Telangana, Karimnagar district is known for its cultural and historical importance. It has four popular pilgrim centres, Sri Raja Rajeswara Swami temple which is the abode of Lord Siva in Vemulawada, Sri Laxmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Dharmapuri, Sri Anjaneya Swamy temple at Kondagattu and Sri Kaleswara-Mukteswara Swami temple in Kalaeshwaram.
Among them, the Sri Raja Rajeswara Swami temple in Vemulawada and the Sri Laxmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Dharmapuri will become part of the new district as they are situated in Vemulawada and Dharmapuri Assembly constituencies.
Meanwhile, Mallial mandal in Choppadandi Assembly constituency which has the Sri Anjaneya Swamy temple will also reportedly be transferred to Jagtial district.
The creation of the new district appears to be proving costly for Karimnagar district as it will stand to lose temple revenue. The ancient Sri Raja Rajeswara Swami temple earns, on an average, Rs 50 crore per annum with pilgrims from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chattishgarh, Tamil Nadu visiting it.
The other two ancient shrines of Sri Laxmi Narasimha Swami and Anjaneya Swamy are also thronged by thousands of devout every year, fetching ample income to the district. At present, the district has 13 Assembly constituencies and two Parliamentary constituencies, Peddapalli and Karimnagar.
Both Jagtial and Korutla fall under Nizamabad Parliamentary constituency. Reportedly, the government has decided to create Jagtial as a new district in the first phase. Jagtial has the highest number of taluks in it, in Telangana state, and is considered as the second biggest city after Karimnagar.
