Cycling to Srinagar for women’s cause

Four member team have taken up task of creating awareness and educating women about laws for them
Krishnagiri: A four-member team has taken up the task of covering 3,600 kilometres to reach Srinagar by road. They are not doing this to create a record but to create awareness and educate women about the existing laws for them.M.K.R. Narendra Arya, 55, a social worker, and his associates Suresh Kumar, 43, R. Narendra, 31, and Ram Pratap Singh, 19, all residents of Raichur in Karnataka, have taken up their bicycle journey to cover 3,600 kilometres from Kanyakumari to Srina
gar.
On August 29, their rally started from Kanyakumari and so far, they have covered 600 km before reaching Krishnagiri on Saturday. Their trip is sponsored by Rotary and Lions clubs.Arya told DC that the cycle rally was planned after an increase in the number of crimes against women. Through the rally, the team wants to create awareness and educate women on laws meant for them.
Detailing his experience, Arya said, "Our interaction with women reveals that people are not prepared to file cases against offenders because of social stigma.” He added, “This attitude must change if women have to live in a safe atmosphere. It is necessary to introduce education on human rights and gender equality from a very early age for boys and girls.”
Arya and his team are against the opinion that women who dress “daringly” face trouble compared to others. “Learn to respect women, treat them as human beings, friends and colleagues rather than finding fault with their dress,” said Arya.
