People of Rajasthan rejected BJP's ‘false’ promises: Sachin Pilot

‘No government has ‘lost confidence’ of the people within 100 days of coming to power’

Jaipur: Buoyed by Congress wining three out of the four assembly seats in by-elections in Rajasthan, state party president Sachin Pilot today said people have "rejected" ruling BJP for "false promises" and brutal "misuse" of power.

Pilot, who had spearheaded Congress campaign' in the BJP-ruled state, said no government in India's history has "lost confidence" of the people within 100 days of coming to power.

"We were up against the might of the state government. The state machinery was put into use to ensure BJP's win but people have rejected the false promises on which the government came to power," Pilot told PTI.

He said BJP had promised "everything" to the people. "The promises ranged from jobs to all to 24 hours electricity but they have not been able to deliver anything on the ground. On top of that, they closed down over 20,000 schools," Pilot said.

He claimed BJP MPs and MLAs and also ministers were camping in each assembly constituency, "misusing" government machinery and "violating" guidelines of the Election Commission to ensure victory in all the seats but people "taught have them a lesson".

The young Congress leader, who held as many as 77 meetings in just one constituency to ensure a Congress comeback, said the by-poll results are a reflection of people's mood and their confidence in Congress.

"A big support for us have been the youth who have come to us this time. We were able to highlight the false promises of the government and the people realised that," he said.

This is the first good news to come out of Rajasthan for Congress in almost a year since it lost the state it had ruled for a decade to BJP led by Vasundhara Raje, now chief minister.
