The city police said 88 mobile patrols and 23 regular patrol teams have been formed
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore city police have beefed up security for the mayoral elections to be held on Thursday. The police have identified the sensitive areas of Coimbatore and deputed full strength of police across the city.
The city police said 88 mobile patrols and 23 regular patrol teams have been formed. In addition to the strength of 3,000 policemen, 350 Home Guards have also been assigned duty.
The full strength of the city police has been mobilised to provide protection and to maintain order on Thursday. The police have also identified 116 'sensitive' stations where three police personnel would be stationed.
The police said one policeman would be deployed to maintain vigil at each booth. At places where there are more than five polling booths within a radius of 1 km, two policemen, including a unit from the armed reserve police, would be deployed, said the police.
The election cell of the city police, which has been tasked with planning deployment on Thursday, said four pickets have been set up across the district and that one sub-inspector and three deputies under his control are stationed.
The city police have also made security arrangements at G.C.T. College on Thadagam road, where the votes would be counted on September 22.
