‘May the force be with you’
PM floors NY and the Web as he greets Wolverine and ends his speech with Stars Wars reference
Hyderabad: The event was the Global Citizen Festival at Central Park, New York, thousands had gathered and the concert stage was all set for a celebrity unlike no other, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. And by the end of his epic speech, Modi was trending on Twitter as the ‘rock star PM’.
His speech, mainly targeted the youth, began with the customary greetings: “How are you doing, New York... I hope, you are having, a good time... Namaste. My greetings, to all those, watching on TVs, laptops, tablets and phones, as well.” In between, Modi quoted a Sanskrit shloka calling for the “peace in the world”. And much to the surprise and delight of everybody present, Modi ended the talk with:
“Thank you once again, for having me over. Thanks in particular, to Hugh Jackman here. God bless you all. May the Force be with You...”
Folks back home were equally excited to see Modi and Jackman together: “I knew it all along. I knew it. And this photo proves it. Modi is one of the X-Men. What is his superpower though?” wrote user Terminal 2 ka Raja. Comedian Sorabh Pant said: “Narendra Modi hangs out with Hugh Jackman. Awesome. So, as an Indian: you can hang with Wolverine if you’re our PM... or a Micromax phone.”
But by the end of Saturday night, it was PM Narendra Modi who was trending on the social media with hashtags: #maytheforcebewithyou, #NarendraModi, #ModiInAmerica, #IndiaRising etc. It was very well played by the PM.
Twitter user Suvie Kaul wrote: “Modi spoke our ‘desi’ lingo at Central Park, NY, but he knew the heart of America when he said #MayTheForceBeWithYou”. Comedian Vir Das tweeted: “You think Modi’s gonna try and get Yoda to join the BJP? Modi said ‘May the force be with you’??? That’s cool!!! If he goes to Washington and says ‘I am your faaattthhheer’ I’m officially a fan.” Deepika Ahlawat, art historian and curator, wrote: “#Modi in #CentralPark. The world just changed. I think it’s quite cool to have a rock star PM. #howyoud-oingNewYork”.
The PM also took to Twitter to share his experience with his followers: “Really enjoyed being among youngsters at the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, NYC. The future belongs to the youth. Their idealism, innovation, energy and ‘can do’ attitude is truly very powerful.”
Other prominent personalities present at the event at Central Park were United Nations Secretary General Ban ki-Moon, Jay Z, singer Carrie Underwood and others.
