Northern Knights, Barbados Tridents in battle for pride
The double header on Tuesday is a contrasting affair
Bengaluru: The double header at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium on Tuesday is a contrasting affair. While the Lahore Lions will battle to survive in the CLT20 when they take on Perth Scorchers, Northern Knights and Barbados Tridents have nothing but pride at stake.
The night game between the two eliminated teams maybe of little significance in the context of the tournament, but it offers the teams one from New Zealand and the other from the Caribbean domestic champions in their country, a chance to regain lost confidence and in the case of Tridents, who haven’t won a single game, to finish with a flourish.
Tridents at home are the Lions, with big names like Dwayne Smith and Kieron Pollard in their mix, but they headed into the tournament with no star power as their front men chose their IPL franchisees over their home team.
Lacking in experience and the power to push fancied teams, the Rayad Emrit-led Tridents have largely been an ineffective team, barring their Super Over loss to Cobras. Battered and low in confidence, the team which arrived in the city on Monday, will look to make amends and take back at least some winning moment with them.
In stark contrast, the Northern Knights turned on the heat early, winning all their matches, including a morale-boosting victory against the Mumbai Indians, only to falter as they progressed, registering a lone victory.
