Simplicity in ethnicity
Ravi Kumar S. and wife Amita’s apartment is a wonderful fusion of ethnic interiors
When you enter the 2,500 sft apartment of Ravi Kumar S. at Nanakramguda, the first thing you notice are the hues of brown and red worked into an ethnic background. The executive vice-president and head of Hyderabad Development Centre, Infosys, moved into this apartment along with his wife, Amita, last year. Not wanting to give away their old furniture, they decided to work the interiors of their home around the colours and look of the furniture.
It was in fact one of their few suggestions to interior designer Sanjay Gupta. “The idea was to have a fusion of ethnic and a modern contemporary design so that they could house their earlier collections of artefacts and furniture,” says Sanjay. All over the apartment, one sees little brass artefacts and even a wind chime with Warli artwork. “I didn’t want all contemporary interiors because that’s what everyone goes for these days. The ethnic set-up is something that will never grow old,” says Amita.
Another thing that Amita wanted specifically was to have a lot of space in the living areas and all of the bedrooms to have storage facilities. “That’s why if you notice, all the walls in the living areas have mural work or just a few artefacts but in the bedrooms there are many wooden shelves,” adds Amita. And for the busy man, the only requirement was to have a lot of seating areas in the house. “I like to work from home often. For the purpose, the balcony and the little window sill sit-out in the bedroom are my favourite areas,” says Ravi.
