Hotel fined Rs 3.6 crore for blocking guest’s personal Wi-Fi

Mariott Hotel Services in Tennessee was fined $600,000 for disabling Wi-Fi networks

Ars Technica recently reported that, Mariott Hotel Services in Nashville, Tennessee has been fined $600,000 for disabling Wi-Fi networks set up by consumers in the conference facility.

The hotel provides its own wireless service, and charges upto $250 to $1000 per access point. And probably to ensure that all their guests use the wireless service they provide, the hotel has a setup to monitor the Wi-Fi networks, allowing them to disable all networks other than theirs.

According to the Federal Communications Commission that this act was in violation of its own advisories that forbids, blocking, jamming or interfere with authorized radio communications, including Wi-Fi.
