Bengaluru: Two days after a nine-year old girl slipped and fell into an overflowing water drain, her body was found on Wednesday in an open drain that leads to the Madiwala Lake here, a senior police official said.
The body of the girl from Tamil Nadu was recovered in a “bad state” from the drain this afternoon, DCP (South) B.S. Lokesh Kumar said, after the search operation involving men from civic body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike, police, the NDRF and the Fire Force.
The search operation was stopped around 8 pm on Tuesday due to incessant rain and darkness and resumed this morning, he said. On October 6, Geetha Lakshmi accidentally fell through a gap in a concrete slab covering a drain along Bannerghatta Road, while she was going along with her aunt to her house. “Heavy rains in the area had caused water logging and the child did not see the gaping hole,” Mr Kumar said.
