ABVP members seek prohibition
Aim is to help people lead a healthy life
Ooty: Hundreds of hill residents, including women, staged a hunger-strike here which was organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) to urge state government to impose total prohibition and help citizens to give up alcoholism and mould their minds for a spirituality-based life for healthy living. Mr.N.Krishnamoorthy, president of the RSS in Nilgiris who presided over the proceedings said that alcohol consumption was going up in the state and even school going students were taking to drink. The ill-effects of alcohol were well known and it not only spoils health, but also family peace and the economy.
“Look at the glorious past of the spirituality-based India's social culture when many were reluctant to drink alcohol and felt shy of being branded as a drunkard. Now, sadly, the scenario has changed as alcohol consumption is considered a kind of privilege. All senior citizens and women should join hands in this movement to urge government to impose total prohibition in Tamilnadu,” he added.
Mr.Senthil, district co-ordinator of the ABVP said that people, especially youth should realize that drinking liquor gives temporary relief but, would lead to addiction that would ultimately ruin health and peace.State government may boast of the huge revenue it earns through liquor sales, but it risks the health and family income of its citizens as drunken driving and accidents ruin one's career and life.
