CMO told to review N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s decisions

Files signed relating to lands in Hyderabad and RR districts among other under scanner

Hyderabad: Highly placed sources in the government said that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has asked the CMO to review all decisions taken by his predecessor N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, the last Chief Minister of the united AP, during his tenure, especially in the year prior to his quitting.

Congress leaders, including ministers in Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy’s Cabinet Dokka Manikya Vara Prasada Rao, TRS legislator T. Harish Rao and others levelled serious allegations against Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy and accused him of amas-sing wealth before resigning as Chief Minister. Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy has denied the charges.

“Government is reviewing decisions taken by Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy government pertaining to lands, project works and packages, tax concessions and others,” a senior official told this newspaper.
However, he refused to elaborate, stating that the files were under scrutiny by a team of officials.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy, a four time MLA from Chittoor district, was sworn in as Chief Minister of undivided AP on Nov-ember 25, 2010, replacing K. Rosaiah. He resigned on February 19, 2014, in protest against the UPA government’s decision to bifurcate the state.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy subsequently floated Jai Samaikhyandhra political party, but it bit the dust after losing all seats it contested. Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy did not contest, but his brother did and lost.

In fact, Mr Manikya Vara Prasad Rao, who dubbed Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy as the “richest po-litician” had dashed off a letter to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, seeking inq-uiry against Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy’s “illegal earnings” before he quit.

Sources said files relating to surplus and jagir lands in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts, price escalation, allocation of works relating to Dummugudem, Polava-ram and other projects, tax concessions to companies, hasty appointments of officials and transfers, among other are under scanner.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy okayed release of funds for extension works at Polavaram project, finalised contractors for Dum-mugudem project, allege-dly without the knowledge of the then major irrigation minister P. Sudarshan Reddy.

Reinstatement of suspended officials, dropping of corruption charges and transfers to key posts are under scanner.

Mr Chandrababu Naidu has ordered all departments to freeze payments for work under Special Development Fund created with '600 crore budget under the CM discretion quota by Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy.
