Why does ‘Modi wave’ continue to sweep country?

In Haryana, BJP set to form government for the first time

New Delhi: The Maharashtra and Haryana results prove that Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to dominate the political scene, after he led the BJP to a historical win in Lok Sabha elections last May.

In Haryana, the BJP will get numbers on its own to form the government. The ruling Congress seems to be decimated to third position, while the INLD is second.

In Maharashtra, the 15-year rule of the Congress-NCP is over as the BJP is poised to become the single largest party. There must be some disappointment for not getting a simple majority on its own as it is unlikely the BJP will cross the 115-120 mark. Interestingly, former ally Shiv Sena emerged second. Congress appears to have been routed, as its seat position is fourth after NCP.

It can well be concluded that the Modi wave continues to sweep the country, as in these two elections the Prime Minister was the star campaigner for his party, and held more than 30 rallies in Maharashtra and about 20 in Haryana.

The Modi wave is attributed to the fact that throughout the run-up to the elections, none of the leaders from other parties -- including the Congress -- could match the content, appeal and energy in addressing election meetings.

It appears that Modi once again has proved wrong his detractors within the party who disapprove of his penchant to go it alone. In Maharashtra, he and BJP president Amit Shah preferred severing ties with the Shiv Sena and also decided to go alone in Haryana. Exactly the same had happened during thge Lok Sabha elections in Bihar when the BJP broke ties with the JD(U) and managed to sweep the state.
