Vasundhara Raje, Shivraj Singh Chouhan rivals flourish
New Delhi: The BJP’s spectacular victory in Maharashtra and Haryana has caused heartburn in a section within the party’s units in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh respectively.
For many in the BJP, appointment of senior leader Om Mathur as politically crucial UP in-charge, is seen as a reward for Mr Mathur’s poll management in recently concluded Maharashtra Assembly election.
This has caused heartburn in the Vasundhara Raje camp. BJP chief Amit Shah was UP’s in-charge until his elevation as the saffron party chief. Similarly in MP, state minister Kailash Vijayvargiya is now being hailed as the “Hero of Haryana” where the saffron party will be forming its first government on its own.
Mr Vijayvargiya, who many consider as a rival of CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, was the election in-charge of Haryana. Mr Mathur’s growing stature within the party has caused heartburn among Raje’s camp as Ms Raje and Mr Mathur are considered rivals.
Incidentally, Mr Mathur is also close to the RSS, which Ms Raje is not. Her supporters still put the blame of party’s loss of 2008 Assembly elections to the section within BJP having proximity to the RSS. In MP, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan is facing pressure over the MPPEB scam in which names of some senior RSS leaders had cropped up.
