People will love Rekhaji as nani: Sharman Joshi
Mumbai: From the director of the much criticised yet widely successful Grand Masti, comes the next film titled Super Nani. And there appears to be nothing in common between the two Indra Kumar ventures. Like Sharman Joshi, who plays a key role in the Rekha-starrer film, puts it, “Grand Masti was one part of the spectrum, and Super Nani is the other. That shows the kind of filmmaker Indra Kumar is.”
Talking about the film, Sharman said, “It’s a film that basically revolves around a nani (grandmother), played by Rekha ji, and her grandson, played by me. The grandson has been living abroad for over 10 years and when he comes back to India, he finds out that things have completely changed. That now the family is not giving the kind of respect to his nani that she deserves. And when he realises that, he motivates her to change herself in a way that forces the family to change as well, so that they have to give her the love and respect she deserves.”
The movie intends to highlight a serious issue in an entertaining way, and Sharman adds that the audience will love the way Rekhaji as a nani demands respect from her family without any melodrama.
The film also features Shweta Kumar, daughter of Indra Kumar, who plays Sharman’s love interest and helps him in convincing his nani. Asked about her experience of working in a film where her father is calling the shots, Shweta said, “Well, I have always wanted my father to direct me in one of his films and for me it was a dream come true. But I can say that he is a thorough professional because I wasn’t treated like a daughter on the set. But yes, we used to have our little father-daughter moments sometimes between the shots.”
Sharing about one such moment, she adds, “When we were shooting for the song Radha choreographed by Saroj Khan, it took us around a week to complete the shooting. And I had to dance the whole day, and that too Indian classical dance. So by the end of the shoot my feet were sore from all the work, but my dad would ruthlessly tell me what to do and how to do it. And then after the shot he would come to me like a concerned father and ask me if I am fine and if I ate anything. So we had those sweet moments as well.”
While Shweta’s Bollywood journey has just begun, Sharman has already been around for a while. Though his last two films, Gang of Ghosts and War Chhod Na Yaar, didn’t work too well at the box office, he feels positive about this one especially because of the cast that includes seasoned actors like Rekha and Randhir Kapoor.
“But the trump card of this film, according to me, is Indra Kumar who already has a great success rate at the box office. While we can only work on making a good film and hope that the audience will like it, a director like Indra Kumar knows what people look for in a film,” he says.
