Central Administrative Tribunal to hear GHMC chief’s plea to stay in Telangana

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal on Tuesday decided to hear the plea of Somesh Kumar, the commissioner of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, seeking retention in the Telangana State cadre.

A two-member bench comprising B. Venkateswara Rao (judicial) and Ranjana Chowdary (admin) was hearing Mr Kumar’s plea. He is seeking to declare his allotment to the AP cadre as illegal and wants directions issued to the Centre to keep him in TS.

The bench sought to know from the Centre how long it would take to complete the cadre division process.

G. Jayaprakash Babu, counsel for the Centre, submitted that at least 600 officials are going to be divided and the Centre is considering 45 objections filed by several of them. He added that final allotment was not over yet and none of the representations made had been rejected.

Maintaining that there was no cause of action that warrants interference at this stage, he urged the bench not to grant any interim direction as it would open a Pandora’s box. The bench posted the case to Thursday for further hearing.
