Gift cards rule over presents this festive
Growing convenience about freedom to choose the gift of the recipient’s choice at his own pace
Chennai: Gifting goes the card way this festive season, with people opting for pre-paid cards as an alternative for real presents. About five lakh gift cards are estimated to have been used this year showing a marked increase in their usage by both brands and shoppers. Growing convenience about freedom to choose the gift of the recipient’s choice at his own pace, time and shop of his liking are the major positives driving the growth of this mode of gifting, which has recorded a 100 per cent YoY growth.
“Flexibility of the technology and convenience of the card are the key,” said T. P. Pratap, chief marketing officer of Qwikcilver Solutions, a leading gift card technology player in the country. “As gift cards have the same value as currency, it is easier to let the person choose his present rather than shove things that he may not use or like,” he added. With new customization and personalization services launched in gift cards, retailers as Shop-per’s Stop, Croma, West-side etc have taken to this format in a big way.
