Good response to ‘She Teams’, says police

Many held red-handed, culprits from all backgrounds

Hyderabad: The police seems to be happy with the response for ‘She Teams’. Officials said six persons were arrested in a week. The culprits include men from all social backgrounds. Many were caught red-handed harassing women.

Cops said there is an immense response for She Teams and whenever suspects are arrested it is applauded by people witnessing it.

There is a 16-year-old as well as a 50-year-old man and an MBA graduate and a government employee in the list of accused.

The Central Crime Station police launched the teams last Friday and they are being supervised by additional CP (crimes and SIT) Swati Lakra.

The teams have already started functioning at various places in the city. Cops say there is a positive response to their efforts. Teams also carry along banners against eve teasing and after every arrest they display them.

“There is applause from the public especially women using public transportation. Our team cautions against eve-teasing and asks women to speak out on such issues,” said DCP P. Pala Raju of the detective department.

The cops have dispersed the enforcement to various areas. Teams are sent in plainclothes in public transportation vehicles like RTC buses, MMTS, shopping malls, cinema theatres and even places of worship. The teams will be sent to hot spots like bus stops, colleges and will also stay put at different places.

Cops have identified the 8 pm to 10 pm time slot as most crucial as working women and students return home at that time. She Teams will also function during these times, officials said.

CCS police said they are also creating awareness among women about eve-teasing and the importance to speak out. They said they can either call or message details of the route to ‘Dial 100’ in case of help.

Officials said culprits will be warned and counselled in the presence of families. Petty cases will be booked and their fingerprints too will be collected. If the offence is repeated the person will be booked under The Criminal Law (Amendment) Act.
