Cops launch digital drive to update criminal records

The crime register, property register and history sheets were updated

BENGALURU: The city police conducted a two-day special drive against old and habitual offenders and have updated their details in the police records.

As many as 1,080 robbery, chain snatching, extortion and burglary offenders were summoned to appear in police stations where they have history sheet against them and were asked for their updated details.

The drive was supervised by P. Harisekaran, ACP (Crime). The offenders were told to give their personal details, activities, businesses and their other sources of income.

The crime register, property register and history sheets were updated. They were also given a stern warning to not to engage in any criminal activities and were let off.

“We are in the process of updating each and every detail of known offenders in the software. The details such as their names, addresses, phone numbers, number of cases and modus operandi will be updated.

If anyone is caught, the police can enter his or her name in the software and get access to the history of crimes.

The status of the case, whether under investigation or trial, will also be available in the new system,” Mr Harisekaran said, adding that the offenders will be categorised like chain snatchers, robbers, dacoits and others.
