Spot fix doesn’t solve RR Nagar garbage woes
Bengaluru: A couple of months ago when a garbage “black spot” in Pattanagere in Rajarajeshwari Nagar was turned into painted walls, benches and a place to rest, senior citizens in the locality rejoiced that their evening walks would no longer be amid stench.
But their joy was short-lived. It didn’t take long for the rubbish to return. The “spot fix” by volunteers of The Ugly Indian (TUI) seems to have been wasted, with residents resuming dumping garbage at the site.
Among hundreds of garbage-laden areas revamped by TUI, Pattanagere’s spot, located near the Rajarajeshwari Temple Arch, attracts garbage from surrounding areas also, allege residents.
Amay.P, a resident, says garbage-related problems have persisted in the area for a long time, but a few weeks after the area was refurbished, it looked like there would be a positive outcome.
“In the first few weeks after it was spruced up we did not come across anybody dumping garbage, but for the last two weeks the area looks worse than it did before,” he complained, saying that many volunteers had joined hands to give a new look to the place.
“Garbage is being dumped all over the recently-fixed spot. We don’t see any changes even after all the efforts that were taken to make this place pleasant,” Mr Amay rued.
