Nandan Nilekani’s Ek Step, giant leap for kids
Ek Step to deliver primary education at scale , the ambition is to reach 200 million children
Bengaluru: Nandan Nilekani is all set to take Ek Step into his next project, but one that could be a giant leap for primary education in the country.
Ek Step is the name of the new entity that Nilekani, the man behind the game-changing Aadhaar project, is in the process of setting up in a bid to use technology to deliver primary education at scale , the ambition is to reach 200 million children!
"No matter what we do, we can never deliver education to the hundreds of millions of young children in the country in the conventional way. There are never going to be enough schools, there are never going to be enough teachers", said a source who has knowledge of Nilekani's project and the thinking behind it.
"So, Nandan wants to solve that problem using technology, and through gamification of education, applying the principles of game design to educational content to expand reach".
Nilekani, about whose future steps there has been much speculation ever since he lost the Lok Sabha elections as a Congress candidate in Bangalore South, is currently on the Ivy League lecture circuit in the US.
While Nilekani and his team, most of them his trusted volunteers from the Aadhaar project, have apparently not nailed down all the details, the former Infosys boss is expected to formally unveil the project in a month or two.
