'Sri Lankan board didn’t co-operate in IPL probe'
It forced the probe panel to approach the other competent authorities
Mumbai: The Mudgal panel found it impossible to get to the bottom of the incident involving a leading Indian batsman who was allegedly in the company of a girl during the Sri Lanka tour in 2010, according to sources.
Nishantha Ranatunga, the secretary of the Sri Lanka Cricket, was approached by the Mudgal panel but the Lankan official didn’t provide any details. It forced the probe panel to approach the other competent authorities in the island nation but it didn’t succeed either.
According to sources, Mudgal panel’s repeated pleas to furnish the confidential report prepared by a security manager fell on deaf ears. B.B. Mishra, one of the members of the Mudgal panel, wrote to the Sri Lanlan board asking for a few details.
“During the investigation, I have been given to understand by a responsible source that there was a violation of ICC Code of Conduct when the Indian Team visited Sri Lanka in the year 2010 in connection with the Asia Cup matches.”
“The violation occured (May be on 17th / 18th June) as a girl reportedly visited the room of an Indian player and remained in the room till 4.00am. It was informed to us that the matter was reported by Major General (retd) Fernando who was looking after the security. We have been given to understand that there are CCTV footage also. It was also alleged that the girl in question was in touch with some bookies,” Mishra’s letter reads.
Mishra wanted to know whether the incident reported above did take place. “Is it within the knowledge of the esteemed Sri Lankan Board? Whether the authorities reported this matter to ICC ACSU? Whether the authorities reported the matter to Indian team manager or to the BCCI? Is a copy still available which can be provided to us?”
