Complaint against IIT’s ‘kiss of love’
Petitioner sought the court to punish the organizers the programme
Chennai: A complaint has been filed with the Saidapet Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court seeking action against the organisers of the “kiss of love” campaign that was participated by around 200 students of IIT– Madras on November 15.Stating that the campaign was immoral, the petitioner, Mr Varaki, a journalist from East Tambaram, sought the court to punish the organizers the programme.
In the petition he stated that such immoral activities should not be permitted in any educational institution, “Kiss of love is nothing but sort of pre-marital sex,” the petitioner said.
He pointed out that while Kerala and Karnataka governments took legal action against those who had indulged in the campaign, no action had been taken in Tamil Nadu against the students and the IIT director.
Last Friday, over 100 students from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras had come together at the campus to kiss and hug in support of the movement that had started in Kochi a month ago. Even as sceptical onlookers gazed on, a group of 50 students came on the lawn near the Himalaya mess facility and hugged and kissed one another. As the frenzy grew, more students joined the group, said eyewitnesses.
