Pankaj Advani's victory over Austria’s Paul Schopf brings him closer to knockout stage

Bengaluru: As the temperature dropped inside the Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium, players turned up the heat at the tables on Day Three of the IBSF World Snooker Championships here on Friday.In an event largely devoid of big breaks over the first two days, the tables opened up and played a little faster, bringing some life to the championship.
While the likes of Ehsan Heydari Nezhad from Iran and Hong Kong’s Lee Chen Wai were the prominent players to have crossed the century barrier, Thai teenager Boonyarit Keattikun struck twice (103, 100) during his 4-0 victory over Andrej Maksimov of Lituania.
Home boy Pankaj Advani wrapped up a 4-0 win over Austria’s Paul Schopf in just a shade over 40 minutes.Warming to the conditions, Advani was in prime form as he cruised closer to a knockout berth, racing through the first frame 103-4, with a break of 71.
Also furthering his knockout chances was Kamal Chawla with a 4-1 win over Jurgen van Roy. Laxman Rawat, Shahbaaz Adil Khan and Lucky Vatnani too ended on the winning side
In the day’s opening action, Asian snooker champion Thor Chuanleong slumped to a 1-4 defeat against Mohamed Khairy of Egypt.
