Travelling in style with comfort
It’s important to keep in mind the destination you are flying to, how hot or cold it is
Hyderabad: Last week, we saw many Bollywood celebrities fly into Hyderabad for Salman Khan’s sister Arpita’s wedding. While we loved the lehenga-cholis and sherwanis they wore at the Falaknuma Palace, their “airport style” was no less glamorous.
Katrina Kaif, Malaika Arora Khan, her sister Amrita Arora and sister-in-law Seema Khan stood out in the photos. Katrina looked causal in her yellow ganji, orange jacket, blue denim and sneakers, Karan Johar was also appreciated for getting the day look right, in his black jacket, aviators and sneakers.
Fashion stylists Indrakshi Ria Pattanaik and Rick Roy tell us how you can rock that “comfortable yet stylish” look. But whatever you wear, you must follow this one rule of thumb, as Rick says, “Comfort has to be the priority. Because you are travelling. It’s also important to keep in mind the destination you are flying to, how hot or cold. it is.”
Denims or Jeggings: Slip into jeans that offer room for some amount of stretch or that are made up of a thinner or a lighter fabric. It makes shifting around in your seat inside the aircraft easier.
Malaika and Seema scored big with their distressed jeans too. Leggings or jeggings plus long, loose T-shirts make for good airport outfits. Since they sit above the waist, you can bend without worrying.
Footwear: While Malaika looked stunning, Indrakshi feels her heels weren’t a smart choice. These days, airports are huge and walking till the exit could take long. So avoid big heels, pumps and stilettos.
Go for converse shoes, flats and sneakers. In fact, brogues are the latest craze. And, those who are flying down to rush to an event can carry their heels in the bags. Remember, avoid as much metal accessories as possible. You don’t want to be asked to step out of the line at the security check.
Handbags: You can carry one or two of these, but mind the size. It’s good to carry mid-size bags that can accommodate your tickets, a pair of clothes, shoes, books, iPods, makeup items and other handy stuff.
Choose bags that are easier to search through, which don’t have a lot of buttons or straps. Men, can move past the backpacks. “The trend of man purse has just come here. Why should men shy away from carrying one? Why should they be carrying backpacks to accommodate little things likes a passport, key chains?” asks Indrakshi.
Layering: This is where you can amp up your style quotient. You can wear bright colour T-shirts with cute messages, as Priyanka Chopra does, and add a shrug or a blazer to it. It will also help you fight off the cold inside the plane. You can add a scarf too. If you choose to wear a dress, carry a blazer along. It will make you look casual yet polished.
