With the wedding season here, it’s time to look at the Indian wear in your wardrobe. While the sari is the favourite of all, a new trend has come up in the fashion scene on the way the sari is worn. Recently, at Arpita Khan and Aayush Sharma’s wedding reception, Natasha Poonawala had all the attention of the shutterbugs as her sari was draped not across her shoulder but across her hand.
Wearing an Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla ensemble, Natasha was in the spotlight with her highly embellished blouse and her sari, the pallu of which she had draped from her waist to right across her hand. Not just her, Parmeshwar Godrej rocked her look with a red sari by not draping it across her shoulder but simply placing the pallu on her hands.
Designers, too, agree that this is a trend that can help you stand apart in the crowd. “You can make a sari look different in many ways, you can team it up with a jacket or even add a brooch to your ensemble,” says designer Ridhi Mehra. Designer Vijay Rana, too, has a few tips. “A stunning top can always add glamour to any simple sari. But if you plan to wear it so, make sure you accessorise less and you will be able to pull off the look.”
Nowadays, more and more people are paying attention to the blouse, making it the highlight in their ensemble. “Gone are the days when a blouse was ready in '200. Today, the blouse takes the centre-stage rather than the sari. How Natasha styled her sari, is something I always love to do. But a very important thing to keep in mind is that you need to have the right figure to carry off the look,” says designer Shashikant Naidu.
