Cyrus Broacha is back with weekly dose of humour
Funny man Cyrus Broacha is back with his popular TV show The Week That Wasn’t and the revamped version will be called The Other Week That Wasn’t (TOWTW). Broacha was at his humorous best as he fielded a few of our questions.
What do we expect from The Other Week That Wasn’t?
I don’t like increasing standards. That leads to great expectation, which incidentally didn’t even sell in Charles Dickens’ time. But jokes apart, TOWTW is going to cover a wide variety of subjects such as entertainment and fashion. We are not going to feature politically heavy subjects which was earlier a major part of the show.
How do you come up with new subjects every week?
I don’t. The country does. To quote Miss India winners, (I stopped following Miss India contests after ’96), we owe it to our country. TOWTW is a news spoof; hence the topics come from the events that have been covered on the national television throughout the week.
Has anyone who featured in the show ever felt offended by the jokes and how did you handle the situation?
It happens. We have a three-step policy we apologise, we grovel, and we apologise and lie still on the floor.
Do people still associate you with MTV?
These people are in the 62-70 age bracket. It occurred with my dad the other day. He mistook Sachin Tendulkar for Vijay Hazare.
…But there are hardly any popular VJs on TV today.
My initial comment would be ‘babooshka’, which is Russian for grandmother. I don’t know if there is a government-sponsored embargo on VJs and if there is then, rightfully so. I don’t watch music television, primarily because they seem to present too many bald men.
