It’s sensibility: Khushbu

Actor says she will reach workers at grassroots level

Chennai: Actor-politician Khushbu who joined the Congress recently on Saturday said the she will go to the grassroots and work as a common person for the party.Though I am an actor, I will not be a person who pulls crowd. I will go to the grassroots and work as an ordinary cadre along with other party workers,” Khushbu, who rubbed shoulders with the big names of the DMK till she quit the party early this year, told mediapersons during her maiden visit to the TNCC headquarters Satyamurthy Bhavan.

Asked if she has plans to rise through ranks in the party, Khushbu, who is known for courting controversies through her daring statements, said that she did not join the party aspiring for posts and both Sonia and Rahul know her and the post she merits. She also justified her decision to join the Congress by stating that she had joined Congress due to her ‘sensibilities’ and belief that only this party could bring about unity among various castes and creeds.

The decision to join Congress was “due to my sensibilities and my dream of a secular India,” she remarked noting that she is a Muslim and she had not changed her religion (after marriage). “At the same time, it is not about religion. But when my country says there has to be unity despite various castes, creeds and colors, only Congress can do that,” the actor-politician added flanked by her state party chief E.V.K.S. Elangovan who added that the party Congress would use Khushbu’s services across all states.

When her attention was drawn to the Congress securing less than five per cent votes in the 16th Lok Sabha polls, Khushbu said that winning and losing is common in politics.Refusing to draw a parallel between Congress and DMK, Khushbu, while responding to a specific query, said, “It should come whole heartedly. (Congress) party is open. We are ready to welcome anyone. I have received such a warm welcome and anybody interested to join the party should do so of their own interest. People cannot be influenced to come into a party. It has to come from within.”
